In an exciting all-Monaco men’s tennis final, Jean-René Lisnard triumphed over Benjamin Balleret, winning 2-0. This impressive victory highlighted the exceptional talent from Monaco in the tennis discipline.
Cypriot gymnast Herodotos Giorgallas claimed not one, but two gold medals. One in the vault and a second in the rings event. His outstanding performance significantly contributed to Cyprus securing the top spot in the overall medal tally.
The women’s athletics competition saw remarkable Cypriot dominance. Athletes from Cyprus clinched gold in 16 out of 18 disciplines, excelling in events from the 100m sprints to the 4x400m relays, javelin, and shot put, only missing out on gold in the 10,000m race and the 400m hurdles.

ABOUT CYPRUS 2009

Cyprus hosted the GSSE again in 2009, featuring eight nations competing across nine sports. For the first time in the history of the event, mountain biking made an appearance in the programe. This edition continued to strengthen the bonds between the participating nations, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship and collaboration, with the mascot Tefkros, being a white dive.
