Ukrainian gymnast Illia Kovtun showcased his gymnastic greatness with a stellar performance in the men’s individual all-around competition, displaying precision and poise across all apparatus. His consistent routines also earned him the gold medal on parallel bars and horizontal bar and confirmed his status as a rising star in the sport. Kovtun goes home with four gold medals (he also won gold as a team alongside his teammates Nazar Chepurnyi and Volodymyr Kostiuk) and one silver medal for his floor exercise.
Finnish athlete Saga Vanninen made history with a record-setting run in the women’s heptathlon event, crossing the finish line at blazing speed to claim gold and set a new EYOF record. Her remarkable achievement highlighted her talent and potential as an athletics sensation.
Great Britain’s relay team triumphed in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay, showcasing seamless teamwork and lightning-fast speed to secure the gold medal. Their stellar performance captivated spectators and underscored British’s prowess in the pool.

ABOUT BAKU 2019

Baku, Azerbaijan, hosted the 2019 EYOF with over 2700 athletes from 48 European countries participating in 10 sports, including gymnastics, volleyball, and tennis. One distinctive feature of this edition was the state-of-the-art sports facilities and infrastructure that showcased Azerbaijan’s commitment to hosting international sporting events.
